Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1124539/C2/1> wherein Y is H or a halogen atom, R is H or a 1-3C alkyl or a 2-3C alkenyl group and X is SO2R1 where R is a 1-3C alkyl group or a phenyl group opt. substd. (e.g. by a halo atom; alkyl, alkenyl, CF3, alkoxy, NO2 or SONH2 groups) a - or b -naphthyl, and when R is H, X may also be an acetyl or propionyl group, are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1124539/C2/2> with an appropriate acylating agent and, if desired, introducing the group R. The starting materials are prepared according to the reaction scheme: <FORM:1124539/C2/3> Pharmaceutical compositions useful as hypotensive agents comprise the compounds of the invention and a carrier therefor. The compositions may be in a form useful for oral or parenteral administration. |
