A weighing machine for postal matters comprises a frosted glass screen on to which a digital value is projected from a postal rates chart of the postage due on an article being weighed. As shown, the postal rates chart 14<SP>1</SP> which may be integral with or connected to a weight indicating chart 15 provided with a series of apertures (27, Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) is suspended from a pivoted lever 11 of the weighing machine which may be provided with a load platform 10 a spring 12 and a damping device 13. The charts 14<SP>1</SP>, 15 are projected by means of one or more light sources 17, 17<SP>1</SP>, lenses 18, 22 on to frosted glass screens 19, 23 and mirrors 25, 26 are provided to deflect the path of the rays passing through the postal rates chart. The mirror 25 is so arranged that it is pivotable to one of two positions depending on whether or not light passes through any one of the apertures (27) in the weight indicating chart 15 to a photo-cell 20 which is connected to control an electromagnetic device 24 through an amplifier 21. The arrangement is such that the screen 23 indicates one digital value at a time and such value is indicative of the postage due on an article which is on the platform 10 and whose weight is indicated on the screen 19. |
