The mechanism for the control of inlet and exhaust valve timings of an internal combustion engine includes an adjusting device with an eccentric shaft (17) constructed from several axial sections in the form of eccentric (1) and connecting (4) shaft pieces which in alternating sequence form the eccentric shaft. A cylinder fashion assembly of inlet and exhaust rocking levers (10,11) and a pump rocker (12) is provided on one eccentric shaft piece, and each eccentric shaft piece is rotatably mounted by bearing supports (8) on correspondingly installed engine walls symmetrically to the longitudinal axis.
