A smooth bore weapon barrel 1 is provided adjacent its muzzle with radial openings 5 either in the barrel itself or in a muzzle attachment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) and a guide ring 6 adjacent the forward ends of the openings 5 to deflect the gases passing therethrough. In a modification (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), the guide ring is attached to the muzzle by bolts and is positioned forward of the muzzle, the gaps between the bolts forming the openings. |
