In a vehicle headlamp of the kind having a corrector assembly for adjusting the optical axis of the headlamp relative to the vehicle in accordance with the attitude of the vehicle, the corrector assembly is connected to the headlamp by means of a connecting rod 10 whose one end is connected in a bracket 13 on the lamp and whose other end has a screw-threaded portion 10a co-operating with a screw-threaded portion 28 of a rotatable member, in a part 8 of which a control member 7 of the corrector assembly is retained, so that rotation of the rotatable member provides initial axial adjustment of the headlamp relative to the vehicle. The bracket 13, on the top of the lamp rim, has an horizontal flange 14 connected to the headlamp and a vertical flange which forms an abutment for a head member 12 on the end of the connecting rod. This vertical flange may be divided into four strips, two 16 of which provide a slot which receives the connecting rod and are bent over at their free ends to form abutments 16a which retain the head member 12, and two 17 of which form back flanges to retain a resilient locking member 18 in position locking the head member in the bracket. The locking member is made of synthetic resin. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the vertical flange is divided into only two strips which provide between them a slot to receive the connecting rod and are bent over at their free ends to retain the head member, a specially shaped clip being used to lock the head member in position. The headlamp is also capable of limited manual adjustment in a horizontal plane by means of screwthreaded studs, secured to the headlamp rim, on which spring-loaded screw-threaded members run and bear against the panel on which the lamp is fixed, Fig. 6 (not shown). In a further embodiment, a method of initially adjusting the headlamp in a horizontal plane comprises interposing a wire spring between the headlamp rim and the panel on which on the lamp is fixed, the lamp being aligned on the panel by a tab and slot arrangement, Fig. 8 (not shown).</p> |
