A method for measuring a hardening depth of a metal which is treated with heat is disclosed. In the method, two pick up coils(1',2') of a bobbin winding member are wound within an alternate current field coil(1) in such a way that pick up coils(1',2') face to each other. The two pick up coils(1',2') offset some inducing voltage. Reference and measuring samples are inserted into one pick up coil and the other pick up coil of a bobbin, respectively. A frequency of a regular function by a function generator is applied to the two pick up coils(1',2') so that a signal of an inducing voltage is obtained. The obtained signal of an inducing voltage is made a graph to obtain a function on a graph. A function curve of a depth to an amplitude is experimentally obtained based on the function on a graph. The amplitude is obtained from the measured curve so that a hardening depth is conversely obtained.
