PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time required for code conversion by eliminating the need to count how many bits of a code are generated during code conversion at any time. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 1 measures the line length of picture data stored in the line memory of an RAM 3 and refers to the code data table in an ROM 2 on the basis of the result to read corresponding code data to a specific area of the RAM 3. Then, the CPU 1 starts executing a code generation processing routine L1 at a process indicated by the jump destination address JA of the read code data to generate data on lower-order digit bits successively from the MSB of an MH code. Thus, the MH code is generated, and then the CPU 1 performs a process 78 to correct the contents of a variable N1 and executes processes following a judgement 20 to complete the encoding process for one line, thereby entering the next process. |
