PHASE DETECTOR FOR DATA SYNCHRONIZATION DEVICE AND ITS OPERATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient and precise timing estimation device whose constitution is simple. SOLUTION: In a data synchronization device, the timing error estimation device 16 samples the reception stream of a data symbol digitized at the start, the end and the intermediate point of a symbol period. The samples are used by a model assuming that the waveform of the data stream is to move along a linear line between the values at optimum sampling time separated by the symbol period. A difference between an intermediate symbol sample estimated by using the linear model and an actual intermediate symbol is assumed to be by a timing error. The timing error estimation device 16 calculates a complex input and it can deal with the modulation system of a wide range.
