The method provides operation of an amusement apparatus or gaming machine which has at least one play device and a central control device with associated real time clock. At predetermined times of the day and/or week, at least one free play is granted in dependence on a predetermined number of games of a series of games. The pay-out estimate for the free play is increased relative to a normal game. The amusement apparatus operating according to this method has a real time clock and a central control device. It also has a display device (22) to represent a given number of games.
