1296998 Butadiene - α - olefin alternating copolymerization MARUZEN PETROCHEMICAL CO Ltd 22 Dec 1969 [26 Dec 1968 22 March 1969 15 April 1969] 62416/69 Heading C3P Butadiene and C 1-4 alkyl or phenyl substituted ethylenes are subjected to alternating copolymerization by means of a catalyst cornprising (a) a trihydrocarbyl aluminium, (b) a vanadium compound containing no halogenvanadium bonds and which is vanadium tetrahydrocarbyl oxide, trihydrocarbyl vanadate, vanadium carboxylate salt or organic complex compound of vanadium, (c) a halogen, transition metal halide, or Group IIIa to Via metal halide. In examples, butadiene is copolymerized with propylene, butene-1, styrene, hexene-1, pentene-1 or 4-methylpentene-1 in the presence of (a) iBu 3 Al or Et 3 Al, (b) VO(OEt) 3 and (c) AlCl 3 .OEt 2 , Cu 2 I 2 , CrO 2 Cl 2 , AlEt 2 Cl, AlEtCl 2 , VOCl 3 , t-BuCl, t-BuBr, I 2 , Br 2 , AlCl 3 , PCl 5 , SnCl 4 , SOCl 2 , NOCl or TiCl 4 . |
