Apparatus for dip moulding a plastic or fluid substance comprises forming members 12 mounted on shaft 10 which is attached at each end to conveying members 18. A toothed wheel 48 is mounted at one end of the shaft 10, and a holder 34 is pivoted on shaft 10 from an open position (shown at top) to a closed position (shown at 12b) defining the mould cavity. Guide members 60, 62 and 64 keep the mould parts in the correct relative positions during the cycle. In operation driving wheel 20 mounted on shaft 22 turns clockwise. The former 12 has been heated to the required temperature for moulding and the holder 34 is dragged along guide means 60. As the chain conveyer 18 moves round wheel 20, former 12 hangs down but holder 34 is prevented from falling by guide member 64. When former 12 is over bath 54 containing the plastic or fluid substance, the bath is raised and the former coated. Holder 34 then disengages from guide means 64 and swings down to cover former 12, moulding the material. At the same time toothed wheel 48 mounted on shaft 10 engages rack 50 and inverts both former and cover to the position shown at 12b, the inversion being maintained by guide means 62. The mould is finally reinverted and conveyed to a heating device to convert the applied substance to the solid state. The apparatus may be used for moulding and baking articles of dough. |
