<p>Aqueous nickel bearing ammoniacal ammonium carbonate systems containing impurities including at least one of Zn, Mg, Mn is reacted with H2 at elevated temperature and pressure to precipitate nickel in elemental form, the improvement enables production of nickel in elemental form substantially free from contamination by impurities by adjusting the sulphate ion content of the system prior to the reaction with hydrogen to provide at least the stoichiometric amount of sulphate ions required to combine with the metal contaminants in the system as soluble sulphates.</p> |
