The invention comprises water-insoluble monoazo dyes of formula wherein X is NO 2 or CN, Y is a H or halogen atom, CN or NO 2 , R 1 and R 2 are C 1-4 alkyl or phenyl, R 3 is H, OH or C 1-4 alkyl, R 4 is C 1-4 alkyl or phenyl or, provided n is 1, H and n is 0 or 1. The dyes are prepared by coupling appropriate diazotized anilines with appropriately N-substituted-3.acylamino-anilines. The dyes are used to colour cellulose ester, synthetic polyamide, polyurethane and, preferably, polyester fibres in yellow to red shades.
