The present invention relates to a novel stereoselective process for preparing the (2R,3S)- beta -phenylisoserine derivative represented by formula (1), which can be used as an intermediate for synthesizing the terpene taxan derivatives paclitaxel and taxotere. In said formula, R1 represents hydrogen, benzoyl or t-butoxycarbonyl, and R2 represents hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkenyl, C1-C4 alkynyl or benzyl.
