The invention relates to an earth rod, which is assembled from a plurality of rod-shaped subelements (1), for dissipating electrical currents in which recesses (10, 11) are provided for connecting these subelements to one another, as well as pegs (3) which can be driven into these recesses. The pegs have a plurality of regions which lie one behind the other in the longitudinal direction of the subelement and are used as a mechanical press connection, the recesses being constructed to match them. While maintaining the required length of the pegs and the depth of the recesses, it is intended to reduce the effective closing movement and hence to make it possible for the earth rod to be driven correctly into even relatively soft ground. In addition, difficulties which previously arose as a result of deformed or torn material (so-called "fretting") should no longer occur. To this end, the peg regions (6, 7) have different diameters, the diameter of the region (6) closest to the base (9) of the peg being greater than the diameter of the region (7) behind it in the direction of the end (8) of the peg. <IMAGE>
