The invention relates to a self-propelled vehicle termed "straddling-tractor" allowing hydraulic adjustment of the height of its chassis above the ground, as a function of the height of the plantations so as to allow passage as close as possible to the vegetation so as to have maximum efficiency for treatment. The vehicle of the invention is characterised in that the rear wheels 3' like the front wheels 3 are each suspended by a hydraulic thrust cylinder 8 and 8' making it possible to vary the height of the chassis 2 above the rear wheels 3' and in that separate distributors 22, 23 make it possible to control the raising or lowering separately, the analogous chambers 14, 14'' or 14', 14'' of the thrust cylinders 8 for the front wheels being directly connected to one another to allow "balancing" of the suspension of the front wheels, whereas two analogous chambers 25, 25'' or 25', 25'' of the thrust cylinders 8' of the rear wheels 3' are each connected to the distributor 23 through one of the restrictions of a flow splitter 24.
