<p>PURPOSE:To stabilize the battery capacity by adjusting constantly the electrolyte amount in each cell chamber using a safety valve which is operated with a low pressure. CONSTITUTION:A battery case 5 is divided into a plurality of cell chambers 10-14, which are equipped with the same capacity, and the neg. electrode 1 is given a greater capacity than the pos. electrode 2, and oxygen gas is emitted from the pos. electrode 2 when the battery is overcharged. This gas is absorbed by the neg. electrode 1, and thereby the internal pressure of the battery is kept constant. Because the oxygen gas absorbing reaction at the neg. electrode 1 is largely influenced by the amount of electrolyte, this amount must be controlled finely. Therefore, abnormal rise of the internal pressure is eliminated by lowering the pressure for operating a safety valve 6, and the electrolyte 4 in the cell chambers 10-14 having a high electrolyte level is released to outside the cells. Thus the battery capacity can be made constant by effectively performing the release of oxygen gas generated when the battery is overcharged.</p> |
