PURPOSE:To enable optical writing and erasure and to reduce the size and weight by making a piezoelectric body which piezoelectrically vibrates with an input voltage abut on at least one of a light source, a resonator, a nonlinear optical material, and a coupling optical system. CONSTITUTION:A discrete type resonator, monolithic type resonator, or monolithic type ring resonator which has a nonlinear optical material is used and the piezoelectric body 12 is made to abut at least one of or a plurarity of the semiconductor laser, the resonator or a mirror for resonance, the nonlinear optical material, and the optical component such as a lens or on the whole of the higher harmonic generating device. The phase or optical axis of a basic wave is finely varied by the piezoelectric vibration of the piezoelectric body 12 to repeatedly cause the presence and absence of LD locking, and a resonance and a nonresonance state, thereby modulating higher harmonics. In this case, the monolithic type resonator is used and KNbO3 crystal 11 is used as the nonlinear optical material. |
