<p>A process for expanding red slurry granulate, esp. for producing lightweight aggregate, consists of coating the pellets with an easily smelted material, esp. a ceramic such as clay, brick dust, or mica, constituting only 5-10% of the total weight. The effect of the coating is to prevent the pellets sintering together when they suddenly expand due to the bursting of the hard skin which would otherwise form.</p> |
