Remelting takes place using plasmatrons to heat a gas to the plasma state and direct it onto the semi-product. The ingot is formed in a cooled ingot mould connected to a source of electric current and esp., with the plasma, nitrogen is supplied to the metal so as to be activated in the plasma and to alloy with the metal.
