The separator comprised a tank which has a base outlet for settled sludge and a high level overflow for clarified water. The tank now contains an open-topped vessel, with its top edge well below the tank overflow. An annular space between the inside of the tank and the outside of the vessel drains directly to the sludge outlet. The flocculated waste water is piped directly into the bottom region of the inner vessel. Sludge settles in this bottom region, fluids up further and eventually overspills into the annular space. Clarified water rises to flow from the tank overflow. Incoming waste water is pref. brought to the separator by gravity flow. The inner vessel pref. contains baffles to enhance sedimentation. The capacity of the inner vessel is pref. not less than half the vol. of waste water per hour for treatment. Clarification of effluent is sludge settled in the inner vessel. Consequently, a separator of reduced bulk can be installed for a given duty.
|
