PURPOSE:To reduce an offensive smell generating at the time of usual extinguishment of a burner fire by a method wherein the downward stroke of a wick at the time of usual extinguishment of the fire is made shorter than that at the time of emergency extinguishment of the fire. CONSTITUTION:A first stop member 13 for stopping at a predetermined position an adjusting shaft 9 connected to the wick 1, a fire extinguishing button 6 for releasing the engagement of the stop member with the shaft 9 and a second stop member 14 for stopping the adjusting shaft 9 released from the first stop member 13 while the shaft takes a rotary return motion, are provided. Further, the downward stroke of the wick 1 at the time of usual extinguishment of fire by the fire extinguishing button 16 is made shorter than that at the time of the emergency fire extinguishment. When the button 16 is pushed down at the time of usual fire extinguishment, the first stop member 13 is raised to rotate a fire extinguishing gear 10 until the gear 10 engages the second stop member 14. Thus, in the case of the usual fire extinguishment, since the tip of the wick is kept slightly lower than a fire grate (e), there is a plenty of air above the wick 1 and the temperature of a wick guide inner cylinder 2 located near the fire grate (e) is high so that the time of vaporization of the oil from the wick 1 is prolonged and the fire extinguishing time becomes longer. |
