PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To average flow velocity distribution and temperature distribution of the whole of a converter and to improve durability of a metallic catalyst carrier. SOLUTION: The belt-like corrugated sheets and flat sheets of a sheet made of a metal are alternately laminated and the laminate is wound in a multiple state to mold two metallic catalyst carriers 35 and 37 of a honeycomb structure, which are axially separately mounted in a shell 39 made of a metal to constitute the catalyst converter of an internal combustion engine. In the catalyst converter, the central part of the metallic catalyst carrier 35 in an upper stream spot forms a high cell part 35a wherein cell density is higher than that of a peripheral part. The central part of the metallic catalyst carrier 37 in a downstream spot forms a low cell part 37b wherein cell density is further coarser than that of the peripheral part. A sectional area ratio between the high cell parts 35a and 37a and the low cell parts 35b and 37b of the metallic catalyst carriers 35 and 37, respectively, is set to 1:1. |
