A TV signal to be supplied to the channel is created in accordance with one of a number of possible operations on the video signal providing mutually different distributions of spatial and/or temporal resolution. The selection includes consistency control of a selection relating to a part of an image compared to selections relating to spatially and/or temporally neighbouring parts of the image. A transmitting section has signal paths for at least three classes of motion, each with a preprocessing circuit (143, 145, 147) which are provided with circuits for individual sampling. The sampling circuits function in accordance with separate sampling patterns so that each preprocessing circuit gives a signal suitable for a display with an optimum distribution of resolution for the associated class of movement. Dependent on the class of movement determined, one fo the preprocessing circuits is coupled to a channel (170). The signal supplied to the channel gives a display with optimum resolution for the given class of motion. A high-definition receiving section has at least three signal paths with postprocessing circuits (43, 45, 47). The correct postprocessing circuit is selected in accordance with the class of motion.
|
