Basic calcium sulphonate is produced by carbonating a substantially oil free mixture of a sulphonic acid and/or an alkaline earth metal sulphonate, a hydrocarbon solvent, an alcohol containing from 1 to 5 carbon atomms and an excess relative to the acid of calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide. Removing the residual alcohol and optionally adding the medium, other than oil, in which it is desired to obtain the basic calcium sulphonate and removing the hydrocarbon solvent used, the choice of medium added enables calcium carbonate to be obtained in solid form by adding no medium, in dispersion form in a volatile solvent by adding the appropriate solvent, or in suspension in a plasticizer by adding a plasticizer to provide a composition compatible with polyvinyl chloride plastisols.
|
