PURPOSE:To provide a bidirectional optical fiber amplifier which can bidirectionally amplify a plurality of signal lights having different wavelength bands to propagating in an optical fiber in an optical transmission system in which the fiber is used as a transmission line. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber amplifier 10 comprises an exciting semiconductor laser 11 for a wavelength of 1.48mum, a wavelength multiplexing/ demultiplexing unit 12, and an erbium-doped optical fiber 13. Two optical multiplexing units 20, 30 respectively have an optical circulator 21, an optical filter 22 having a wavelength transmitting band of 1.54mum or less, an optical fiber 23 having a wavelength transmitting band of 1.55mum or more, an optical multiplexer 24, an optical circulator 31, an optical filter 32 having a wavelength transmitting band of 1.54mum or less, an optical fiber 33 having a wavelength transmitting band of 1.55mum, and an optical multiplexer 34. |
