PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a CO oxidizing catalyst and method for selectively oxidizing CO in combustion exhaust gas or hydrogen gas. SOLUTION: A CO selective oxidizing catalyst for selectively oxidizing CO in CO-containing gas consists of La type perovskite oxide La1-xSrxMn1-yCoyO3 (wherein x is 0-0.10 and y is 0-1.0), spinel oxide selected from ZnMn2O4, ZnCo2O4 and ZnFe2O4 and oxide selected from MgO, CaO, HfO2, Ta2O5, MnO2, Fe2O3, Co3O4, Rh2O3, CuO, CeO2, Y2O3 and La2O3.
