PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need of large space in the subscanning direction and to miniaturize a device as a whole. SOLUTION: Light source units 2C and 2Bk are arranged separately in the subscanning direction, so that respective optical axes cross, and respective beams C and Bk from the units 2C and 2Bk advance straight via coupling lenses 3C and 3Bk, apertures 4C and 4Bk, and 1st and 2nd image forming optical systems 5C and 5Bk. The beam C is reflected by a reflection member 8C toward an upper polygon mirror 1MC, and the beam Bk advances straight, as it is and is made incident on a lower polygon mirror 1YBk. A photoreceptor drum is exposed with the beam C deflected by the mirror 1MC and the beam Bk deflected by the mirror 1YBk, respectively via 3rd and 4th image forming optical systems 6C and 6Bk and a returning mirror.
