A vibration damping steering wheel

A steering wheel assembly (10) having a tuned absorber for damping vibration is disclosed. In one embodiment the steering wheel (10) has a hub (14) and a substantially circular rim (16) connected to the hub (14) by a plurality of spokes (12) extending between the hub (14) and the rim (16). A hollow tube (18) is defined by an interior portion of the rim (16) and a plug (26) is fixed inside the hollow tube (18) at the twelve o'clock position. A fluid substance (20) is located inside the hollow tube (18) with a gaseous substance (22). The gaseous substance (22) is interposed between the fluid substance (20) and the plug (26) and so forms a mass /gas spring damper.
