PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert methyl group into vinyl group in high conversion while suppressing the poisoning of catalyst by carrying out a radical coupling reaction of methane under specific condition. SOLUTION: A compound of the formula R-CH3 (R is H, cyano, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group or an aromatic hydrocarbon group) is methylated by forming radicals of the compound and methane while oxidizing in an oxidizing atmosphere. The coupling of R-CH3 with methane is carried out e.g. by reacting the substances in the presence of e.g. a double oxide consisting of a rare-earth oxide and a basic oxide at >=463 deg.C, preferably 600-750 deg.C under a partial methane pressure of >=46Mpa. The collision frequency of methyl radicals is increased to improve the conversion by performing the radical coupling reaction under a condition to give a supercritical state of methane. Since the formed coke is extracted into the methane fluid, the deposition of coke-on the catalyst is suppressed to suppress the deactivation of the catalyst. |
