A rotary magazine comprises a frame in two parts 7, 8, held together by a pin 12 on which is mounted a rotor 42 having a plurality of cartridge pockets separated by radial ribs R and having their axis in skew alignment with respect to that of the pin 12. A cylindrical housing 23 fits into cuts 33, 34 in the frame to hold the cartridge in the pockets. A spring 40 is connected between the rotor and frame part 8 and is tensioned when the cartridges are inserted into the magazine so as to provide the feed power when the cartridges are individually fed into breech 68 from the magazine. The top of the housing is formed with lips 25, 26, Fig. 6 (not shown), which prevent the top cartridge from being pushed upwards and a gate wall 27 to engage the forward part of the cartridge C<SP>1</SP>, the opposite side of the gate being formed with a slot 31 for clearance of the cartridge rim. The breech block 67 can push the top cartridge forwards on forward movement, the rim engaging ramp edges 60, 61 of the gate walls to bring the cartridge into alignment with the breech and to engage the rim in recess 69 and behind extractor 68<SP>1</SP>. The cartridge is detonated by firing-pin 67<SP>1</SP>. The rotor is provided with an extended rib 43 the rear edge portion of which is bevelled and that cooperates with a deflector 57 on the frame part 8 to raise the base of the last cartridge to a position in which it can be engaged by the breech block. The head 15 and end 14 of the pin engage with recess 69<SP>1</SP> in the receiver 3 and a bore 74 in a spring-loaded member 73 to mount the magazine which may be removed by pressing the lever 82 upwards to disengage the member 73 from the pin end 14. In a modification the magazine is formed of a frame having one end wall integral with the cylindrical wall. The opposite end is closed by a detachable closure and a magazine loading and feeding gate is removably secured to the top of the frame. |
