1,145,058. Bulky yarn. FIBER INDUSTRIES, Inc. 7 July, 1966 [12 July, 1965], No. 30567/66. Headings D1F and D1W. An untwisted bundle of filaments are mechanically crimped, and then passed through a fluid jet under a sufficient tension to prevent loop formation but to allow the filaments to intermingle to farm a coherent bundle or yarn. In one embodiment the filaments are crimped in a stuffer-box having a setting chamber and are then fed directly to a fluid jet comprising a housing having a cylindrical bore, and an insert which is positioned in the bore and has a co-axial yarn passage, and a plenum groove in its circumference, there being a gas inlet through the housing into the plenum chamber formed by the groove and two diametrically opposed gas passages from the chamber unto the bore. In a second embodiment the filaments are cramped by two gear wheels positioned between a draw pin and a draw roll and then passed to the fluid jet. Air, nitrogen, or carbon dioxide may be used in the jet, and the gas may be directed perpendicularly at or at an acute or obtuse angle to the yarn. The filaments may be composed of a polyamide, a cellulose ester, a polyester, a polyolefin, or a vinyl or acrylic polymer, and be of circular, Y, bell-shaped, trilobal, or cruciform cross-section. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1064765. |
