1,263,788. Carboxylic acids and anhydrides. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 3 July, 1969 [4 July, 1968], No. 33620/69. Heading C2C. The invention relates to the manufacture of carboxylic acids and anhydrides by oxidizing aromatic hydrocarbons or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons in the vapour phase with air at 350-450‹ C. in contact with a catalyst arranged in one or more tubes surrounded by a heatexchange medium. According to the invention, the heat-exchange medium flows in the same direction as the reaction gases. An example is given in which the invention is applied to the oxidation of o-xylene to yield phthalic anhydride. Other stated applications of the invention are the oxidation of naphthalene to phthalic anhydride, the oxidation of 1,2,4-trialkylbenzenes or #-alkylnaphthalenes to trimellitic acid or its anhydride and the oxidation of benzene or n-but-2-ene to maleic anhydride.
|
