Artificial stone articles are made by applying differently coloured mixtures of resin and powdered stone in a desired pattern to a base sheet, applying the sheet, pattern side down, on to a mould, removing the sheet and allowing the mixtures to harden on the mould. In the example, a series of overlapping waxed or plastics base sheets supported on a table are covered by alternate strips of different coloured mixtures and the table vibrated to fuse the strips to the desired degree. The covered sheets are then transferred one-by-one to a vibrated male mould 6 where the base sheets are removed. A female mould 7 is then superimposed and the space between the deposited mixture and the female mould filled with a compatible resinstone matrix, the whole then being allowed to garden. The resin may be a polyester.</p> |
