Hydrazine formation - by irradiation of ammonia in basic soln

Method of making anhydrous hydrazine by radiolysis of a soln. of ammonia made basic by addition of an amide, an imide, a nitride or a hydride or by catalytic or spontaneous decompsn. of a soln. of a metal in the ammonia. The process produces a stationary concn. of N2H2 >=4 x 10-2 mole/l. of NH3 which is considerably higher than in prior art (0.59 x 10-2 mole/l.).
