Prepn. of fibre-reactive azo dyes of formula (I) comprises first condensing a 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-3,6- or 4,6-disulphonic acid, a 2,4,6-trihalo-s-triazine and an alkylene- or arylenediamine of formula H(R1)N-A-N(R2)H to give a cpd. The (II) is then coupled with diazotised (III) to give the figre-reactive dye (I).In the formula, X is a bond or lower alkylene or alkyleneoxy gp.; one Y is H and the other is sulphonic acid. Z is halogen. R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl. A is alkylene or arylene.The dyes have good solubility and can be used for dyeing and printing silk, leather, wool, polyamides, polyuretahesn and (esp.) cellulosic fibres, such as cotton linen, and regenerated cellulose. The dyes have excellent fixing properties and the colours have good light fastness and excellent moisture resistance.
