Safety catch mechanism for an abattoir pistol of the type comprising a hollow, cylindrical breech partly surrounded by a coaxial, knurled sleeve. Within the breech a firing pin can be spring-loaded by axially displacing the pin until a shoulder on the pin engages a stop. The stop is a collar through which the pin is axially slidable. The collar is pushed into engagement with the collar by a spring. A cam surface on a pivoted lever can be used to move the collar out of engagement with the shoulder so that the firing pin is released. The lever serves as a combined trigger and safety catch. The lever is telescopic and cannot be pivoted sufficiently to release the firing pin until the lever is oulled out to an extended position. Before extension, a buffer stud limits pivotal movement. When extended, the stud can move into a cavity or clear space to allow increased pivotal movement. To allow increased pivotal movement. Pref. the telescopic extension of the lever is against spring pressure sufficient to retract the extension. Although the device is simple and inexpensive, the safety catch is automatically self-setting each time the firing pin is loaded. After that, the pistol cannot be fired until the catch is released which requires the lever to be telescopically extended.
|
