3-Methyl-3-(4-acetylaminophenoxy)-2,4-dioxabenzocyclohexanone -1 (I) is prepd. for use as an anodyne. 2.3 g of 4-acetylaminophenol is mixed with 30 g of acetylsalicylic acid chloride in 120 ml of chloroform. This mixt. is stirred vigorously at 20-25 ≦̸C, and 12 ml of pyridine is added to the mixt., and then this reaction mixt. is left alone 15 hrs at room temp., and then this soln. is washed with water and 5% sodium hydroxide soln., After evaporating the solvent, recrystalization gives the compd.
