An electrochemical cell, having a cell housing that contains the active components of the cell and comprising: (a) a cylindrical well 74 formed in a part of the cell housing and having a cylindrical exterior surface disposed inside the cell; (b) a fastening member made of a resilient sheet 401 of material that includes a fastening hole whose circumference is interrupted by a plurality of radially inwardly directed tabs 406, the fastening member being axially forced onto the cylindrical exterior surface of the well; and (c) means 28, 34 fixed to the fastening member for electrically connecting one of the active components of the cell to the fastening member.
