The patient floats on an air bed, the pressure of which is continuously controllable and variable with time and locally according to medical requirements. The air may have a varied temp. and may be mixed with certain gases (e.g. 02) or solid or liq. materials or medicaments. ADVANTAGE - The air bed is hygienic, is inexpensive allows patient treatment (e.g. by vibration or medication), prevents contact of wounds and burns with bedding, prevents bed sores and allows retrofitting of existing hospital beds.
