<p>PURPOSE:To uniformize the mechanical properties of a thick steel plate by controlling the heating temp. of an induction heater in the transverse direction of the plate in accordance with the transverse temp. distribution of the steel plate during or after rolling. CONSTITUTION:The induction heater 10 is provided between hot rolling mills or between the rolling mills and a force cooler, for example, between the thick plate rolling mill 1 and the force cooler 2. The induction heater 10 is constituted of plural pieces of induction coils 11, a thermometer 12 and a control device 13. The thermometer 2 detects the transverse temp. distribution of the thick steel plate 4 and sends the detected distribution to the control device 13. The coils 11 are divided to plural pieces oppositely from above and below across the transverse direction of the thick steel plate 4 and are respectively independently energized. Partial and independent heating in the transverse direction of the thick steel plate 4 and the front and rear faces thereof is thereby permitted. The transverse temp. distribution of the plate 4 is, therefore, uniformized and the mechanical properties of the steel plate are homogenized. The yield is thus improved.</p> |
