A device for cleaning and elevating vegetable tubers includes a frame, a first plurality of cylindrical brushes rotatably mounted on the frame, and a second plurality of smaller cylindrical brushes rotatably mounted on the frame with proximate surfaces of the first and second plurality of brushes defining a substantially vertical serpentine path therebetween. A first drive system is provided for driving consecutive brushes of the first plurality of cylindrical brushes at greater relative speeds of rotation. A second drive system is provided for driving consecutive brushes of the second plurality of cylindrical brushes at smaller relative speeds of rotation than adjacent cylindrical brushesof the first plurality. The consecutive brushes of the second plurality may haveincreasing speed. The first plurality of brushes may include a greater number of smaller diameter brushes than the second plurality of brushes. The differences in size and speed ensure that the produce is rotated and elevated bypassing along the vertical path.
