摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal orienting agent which exhibits excellent liquid crystal orientability, pretilt angles and electrical characteristics even if a baking temp. is as low as <200 deg.C by consisting the liquid crystal orienting agent of the polyamide acid obtd. by bringing prescribed aliphat. tetracarboxylic dianhydride and arom. diamine into reaction and the polyamide acid obtd. by bringing the arom. tetracarboxylic dianhydride and 1,4-bisbenzene and specific diamine into reaction as indispensable components. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal orienting agent consists essentially of the polyamide acid obtd. by bringing aliphat. tetracarboxylic dianhydride expressed by formula I, formula II, etc., and the arom. diamine into reaction and the polyamide acid obtd. by bringing the aliphat. tetracarboxylic dianhydride and the 1,4-bis(3-aminopropyl dimethylsillyl)benzene and diamine expressed by formula III, formula IV, etc., into reaction. Coating films are formed by applying such liquid crystal orienting agent on substrates and baking the films at 130 to 250 deg.C. The films are thereafter subjected to the orientation treatments, such as rubbing, and are subjected to washing and drying at need, by which the oriented films are obtd.
