PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize an adverse effect on communication traffic by changing a data transfer rate in accordance with a state of a printer. SOLUTION: A computer 13 and a printer 70 are connected by an IEEE 1394 serial bus. The printer 70 has a prescribed printing speed and informs the host computer 13 of the amount of data to be inputted for a unit time. Based on the amount of data to be inputted for the unit time of which it is informed by the printer 70, the host computer 13 determines a data transfer rate to the printer 70 and transmits data.
