PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liver protecting agent for treatment or prophylaxis of liver function failure or protection of liver for transplantation. SOLUTION: This liver protecting agent comprises a protein in royal jelly specified by the following properties as an active ingredient. (a) A single band is formed in unmodified polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of protein in royal jelly. (b) A molecular weight measured by SDS-polyacrylamide gel under reducing conditions is about 51 kDa.
