An axle bearing box 1, Fig. 1, is mounted in a bogie frame 10 by fore and aft pairs of conical rubber/metal suspension elements 3, 7, subjected to shear and compressive loading, the upper element 3 of each pair being carried by a lateral bracket 2 cast on the box 1, whilst the lower element 7 of each pair is carried by a bracket 9 on the frame 10, the elements 37 of each pair being disposed in opposed relation on a bolt 5 by which the element 7 is suspended from the element 3. The elements each comprise an inner metal part 4 or 6, an intermediate rubber part and an outer metal part, e.g. 8. In another embodiment, each element comprises two wedge-shaped rubber/metal elements arranged in parallel (Fig. 3, not shown). Each conical element may be formed of metal and rubber parts in series, as described with reference to Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) and the inner members of the series may be rendered inoperative, under heavy loading.</p> |
