Fluorescent lamp electric current supply unit - generates HF interrupted DC with Zener protection against transient currents

A circuit is used which provides the power supply for fluorescent lamps. It is based on the use of an oscillator provided with a feedback loop to effect the required characteristics. The circuit is intended to remove the need for autotransformers working in the audible frequency range and to minimise the energy losses due to heating. The unit is based on the use of an oscillator having two series connected transistors driving a series LC resonant circuit. This is connected in parallel with a circuit providing a high frequency interrupted DC output leading to a rectifying and feedback stage. A zener diode provides protection against transient currents.
