The device triggers a vending machine with a fixed coin stack chute (4), in which several locking levers arranged on a fixed upright carrier (22) form trust bearings for coin stacks of different heights. The lowest coin of each stack engages with a release component. The locking handles (24) are each formed as handles. These each have an arm which extends into the coin chute (4) and are coupled to a programmer component. The latter selectively puts individual or several locking levers out of operation by pivoting them out of the coin chute (4). At least one locking lever lifting mechanism (30) is provided between the coin chute (4) and the carrier (22). The lifting mechanism has a probe (36) to test the coin diameter. The probe extends into the coin chute (4). If the diameter exceeds a limit the arm of the locking lever on the upper edge of the coin being tested pivots out of the chute.
