This invention describes novel photoactive ribonucleotides that contain photo-cross-linking agents placed at specific internal positions within a ribonucleotide. The invention also provides methods for identifying novel, sequence-specific target molucules, using the photoactive ribonucleotides of the invention, as well as improved nucleic acid hybridization analysis methods.
