Self-supporting molding for curved parts of a rail vehicle subjected to high mechanical and corrosive stress is a laminate with higher strength in the seating area against the side of the wagon. It has an outside skin of unreinforced reactive resin over staple fiber mat and inside skin of unreinforced reactive polyester resin, each over >= 2 plies of woven glass filament fabric/filled resin, and a spacer of open fabric layers, kept 5-6 mm apart by cross fibers, and optionally filled resin. Self-supporting molding for curved parts of a rail vehicle subjected to high mechanical and corrosive stress, e.g. wheel protector, engine cover etc., consists of a glass fiber-reinforced resin laminate with inhomogeneous structure, which has higher strength in the seating area against the side of the wagon. The laminate comprises (a) an unreinforced outside reactive resin layer; (b) a staple fiber mat with 15-18 tex monofilaments for a smooth surface; (c) a first woven glass filament fabric with >= 2 plies; (d) a spacer fabric subject to high stress and partly extending into the side wall region, which consists of fabric layers with open surface structure and a weft/warp reinforcement ratio of about 1.5, kept 5-6 mm apart by cross fibers; (e) a second woven glass filament fabric with >= 2 plies; and (f) an unreinforced inside reactive resin layer of polyester resin. The spacer fabric (d) has a matrix of optionally filled liquid resin, whilst the staple fiber mat (b) and glass filament fabrics (c, e) have a matrix of filled liquid resin of the same composition.
